Conversion factor for 1 Cubic Yard (3’x3’x3’ or 27 Cubic feet)

Covers an area to a depth of:       1” over an area 300 square feet
                                                       3” over an area 100 square feet
                                                       4” over an area 75 square feet
                                                       6” over an area 50 square feet

“Rule of thumb” for bulk products:
- On bare ground, mulch should be applied 4” deep, minimum
- When preparing for sod, loam should be applied at a 6” depth, 
  minimum
- Decorative rocks will require 3” depth to cover

Cubic Feet / Cubic Yards
Measure the area of your project with a tape measure and note length and width in feet and depth in inches.
It may be easier to divide your planned areas into small squares to give you a more accurate measurement.
Divide the depth in inches by 12 then Multiply the length and width together to get a measurement in cubic feet. Divide the Cubic Feet by 27 to get your measurement for cubic yards.


Area of a Square or Rectangle
Measure the area of your planned lawn with a tape measure and note length and width in feet. Take into account areas you plan to use for flowerbeds or patios and deduct these areas from your measurements.
It may be easier to divide your planned areas into small squares to give you a more accurate measurement.
Multiply the length and width together to get a measurement in square feet.
